Genre and Conventions
Types
There are 4 different specific aims/purposes which can be the meaning of the advertisement. Common ground where the aimed audience can find areas of the advert relatable to them. The advert can also be for fulfilling a need, for example a food or drink type product to quench ones thirst. The product could also be a solution to a problem, like for example it could be cream for clearing acne. There is a clear benefit, meaning there is a good reason for buying the product, like for example Apple has a fanbase, meaning people would buy it for the name. For the Bubble and Fizz advert, I would choose to create a common ground with the aimed audience and also to fulfil a need for them, because the drink is aimed at people who are health conscious and enjoy the outdoors so it would have to be put across in this sort of way.
Message
There are also 4 ways an advertisement can be linked to these aims/purposes. The logo which represents the appearance of the brand, for example the monster energy logo is an M, which just makes sense. the slogan, which is another form of appearance for a brand, like how Monster energy has unleash the beast which does relate to the name of their brand. The acting is also how the purpose of the product is conveyed through the actors, for example the way they use the product in the promo. There is also the audio and visual codes which create a representation through audio and visuals, like for example in a video aimed at students there would be students in the video, and in a radio show for somewhere up north there would be someone talking who comes from there/has a northern accent. For the Bubble and Fizz advert, I would choose both the logo and the slogan because the name of the brand is somewhat simple and easy to figure out a design for it.
Conventions
There are also 4 ways of showing which type of genre and convention the advertisement is. Promotion, which are the activities performed by a company which is designed to increase sales and encourage the use of it, for example giving out discounts for the websites or buy-one-get-one-free. Shock, which creates shock for the audience, like for example the water aid adverts use this to show the reality of peoples lives in South Africa. Celebrity endorsement, which uses the help from a celebrity to reach a ranged audience, like how Ed Sheeran promoted Heinz by having his own product ‘Edchup’. USP, it is the unique selling point. It’s the features of a product which promote it really well, for example amazon has a large selection of products for relatively small prices with fast delivery. For the Bubble and Fizz advert, I would choose to have a unique selling point because the drink is gives energy but is also healthy, which makes it different from a lot of other energy drinks.
